If you are craving a little more background information on me, what better place to start off than the frequently asked questions section?

Twenty-one  questions is way too long of a game, so I will be answering my three most frequently asked questions for you background seeking pleasure!

Question Number 1: Why did you start blogging? 

Blogs are personal and whatever I share on Being Latina...is meant to entertain and educate. By blogging, I am living out my personal belief of communicating as a way to overcome stereotypes. Hopefully, by reading my experience as a Latina, you will be able to identify with the humanistic issues and realize that Latinas are just like other women.

Question Number 2: When are you going to be finished going to school? 

School has always been the one thing in life in which I am actually talented, besides singing. I suck at sports and have never been an artist. Although I am good at being a student, this is not the only reason why I keep striving for higher degrees.

I am the first person in my immediate family to graduate from high school, college, and graduate school. I promised myself that I would not stop until I received a law degree or doctorate and I have finally made my choice to attain a doctorate.  

Question Number 3: How did you meet your husband? 

God intervened. Seriously, it is no joke. I had my heart broken twice and after a long list of date horror stories, my grandmother had had enough. She started praying for me. I thought it was a nice of her to do, but did not really think that God would waste his time trying to catch me a soulmate. I was wrong. 

I had first noticed Jorge in one of my college classes and my Latino radar was on high alert. Catching a good Latino man in college is no joke. Latinas may not talk about it openly, but everyone is trying to find a good Latino man throughout their four years as an undergrad. Sadly, most Latinos get caught up with fraternity life or they know that they are in high demand and let it go to their heads, but not Jorge.

The first time I attempted to talk to Jorge, was in our statistics class. I purposely sat behind him in order to try to spark some conversation. As soon as I saw him struggling, I helped him with the problem. He said, "Thank you" and never looked up. So the first attempt was an all out failure.

The second try was a bit better, but still a fail. When I found out that him and I got into the same Summer Academic Enrichment Program at UC Irvine, I figured that I would make my move at the mandatory orientation meeting we had to attend. I kept thinking that this would be my moment to shine. I introduced myself and we talked all the way to my bus. When we said good bye I figured he'd ask for my number, Facebook screen name, or maybe even an outdated Myspace? There was nothing. All he said was good bye and see you in the program. At that point, I gave up and figured he was just not that into me (He's Just Not That Into You had recently come out at the time). 

It wasn't until I gave up and kept looking for my partner that he found me.  When the summer program started, Jorge and I were divinely placed in the same collaborative group. I gave up on pursuing him and was actually talking to somebody else at the time.  Jorge and I spent so much time together that we ended up falling for each other. The only problem was that I still had to cut the other dude loose. Once I dropped the other guy the awkward line, "It's not you, it's me," Jorge and I have been a couple ever since.
